Hicks won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for his work on the terrorist attack at Westgate mall in Kenya, while Haner picked up the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for his essay on a Boston Marathon bomb blast victim who lost most of both legs.

The annually-awarded Pulitzer Prize recognizes achievements in newspaper and online journalism, literature and music. Established in 1917 by Joseph Pulitzer, it is administered by Columbia University in New York. A full list of 2014 winners is available here.
